In simple words, Early detection and treatment has better prognosis. Breast cancer prognosis depends on many factors including tumor size, extention, lymphnode involvement,biologic marker status such as ER, PR, HER-2, Histological factor, tumor cell analyzes. But most significant is the lymphnode metastasis among these.
When cancer is localized to breast tissue without any regional lymphnode involvement , the cure rate is more than 85%,with the prognosis depends on Size of tumor,Histological grade, Tumor label index,hormone receptor study,oncogene study etc...
When lymphnode involvement is present,Axillary lymphnode status holds the best analyzed prognostic factor.Because lymphnodes are the vital factor in staging breast cancer along with distant metastasis.The More number of axillary nodes involved, lesser the survival rate. Yes when axillary lymphnodes are involved with tumor, the survival rate drops to 50-70% at 5 years.Age factor also shares the responsibilty in prognosis.
